Overview

The Almond PCB repository provides electronics design files associated with the Open Bionics hand ecosystem. The contribution inspected here is the V1.2 circuit/board and a draft BOM, rather than a complete hand, supplied actuator set or verified firmware installation. It merits a separate component reference because a hand builder needs to understand the controller's own source and parts uncertainty. [1] [2] [3] [4]

Is this for you?

Known limitations
  • README warns that the archived BOM may be incomplete; no full matched build path or current complete cost.
  • CC-BY-SA4 repository grant does not cover external hand actuators, bought-in components or separate firmware.
  • Actual board/circuit text inspected; no DRC, fabrication, power or actuator test.

Editorial assessment of bounded source evidence; no runtime, fit, manufacturing or compatibility proof.

What you need

Dependencies
  • Eagle-compatible circuit inspection; exact V1.2 hardware and separate hand/firmware
  • BOM is explicitly potentially incorrect or incomplete

  • Compare the V1.2 schematic and board against each draft BOM row.
  • Resolve missing parts, external firmware, hand wiring and power requirements before fabrication.

Project notes

Inspect the real circuit and board

The original Eagle schematic and board were retrieved at the pinned revision and matched to their Git blob identities. XML inspection confirms actual schematic parts/nets and board elements/signals. Those are design sources, not screenshots or only a project manifest. Structural inspection does not establish a successful native Eagle load, resolved libraries, DRC result or correct wiring for any selected hand. [3] [4]

Begin with reviewed revision 34d1181837e49c1d00af6181a6ac37bb388f19ed and the files Almond Board V1.2.sch and Almond Board V1.2.brd, matching them to the exact intended controller hardware. The circuit and board sources do not establish a released mechanical hand design. External motor, sensor and hand mechanisms remain separate dependencies. [1] [3] [4]

Treat the BOM warning as a purchasing constraint

The README's February 2024 update explicitly warns that the uploaded BOM may be slightly incorrect or incomplete because the project was archived long before. The inspected draft CSV is therefore a starting parts list, not a reconciled current shopping cart. The draft CSV gives U2–U4 quantity 3, unit price 2 and total price 2, an apparent arithmetic inconsistency to reconcile. That observation does not establish the correct hardware quantity or a current price. Compare references, values, packages and quantities against the actual schematic/board before ordering or substituting parts. [1] [2]

A list of components does not establish that firmware, programming instructions, hand wiring, power limits or calibration have been matched to this board. Those are unresolved integration requirements in this bounded review. No current stock, supplier prices or complete first-working cost was established, including fabrication, assembly tools, external hand/actuators, interfaces, delivery and tax. [1] [2] [3]

Use the available source within its scope

The README grants repository files under CC-BY-SA-4.0. That is the declared scope for these electronics and the draft list; it does not automatically license external hand designs, purchased actuators or separately sourced firmware. Preserve attribution and separate third-party terms when investigating reuse. [1]

The practical next step is inspecting the pinned circuit and board against each draft BOM row, then identifying the exact external firmware and hand/power configuration. This review did not compile firmware, program a controller, fabricate/assemble a board, measure electrical behavior or move a hand. A structurally readable Eagle file is source evidence, not a commissioned prosthetic or robotic controller. [1] [2] [3] [4]

What we checked

Pinned source and selected artifact structure review only; no dependency installation, upstream build, native CAD/kernel/fit/strength validation, fabrication, wiring, calibration, simulation, powered operation or performance testing. Original archives stay private.
