Overview

The LumenPnP Feeder is a tape-feeding component for a pick-and-place machine, with mechanical CAD and board sources. Its README describes use with LumenPnP, separate Photon firmware and OpenPnP support. This is a feeder component entry, not a complete LumenPnP build or proof of compatibility with every OpenPnP machine. [1]

Is this for you?

Known limitations
  • Sampled frame8/assembly8 source containers and mobo inspected; not every linked part or complete assembly resolution.
  • frame12 source tree blob is only 132 bytes and may be LFS; do not treat it as inspected 12 mm geometry.
  • Photon firmware is separate; no version pairing, flashing, feeding or pickup alignment established.
  • Hardware CERN-OHL-W-v2, KiCad libraries CC-BY-SA4, workflow code MPL 2; branding/media reserved.

Editorial assessment of bounded source evidence; no runtime, fit, manufacturing or compatibility proof.

What you need

Dependencies
  • Existing compatible LumenPnP/OpenPnP setup and separately version-matched Photon firmware
  • Selected 8 mm feeder assembly/frame and linked mechanical parts; 12 mm is a separate configuration
  • FreeCAD assembly links and KiCad 9-era source formats; native loads not tested

Actuators
  • Bought-in feeder drive/peel motors; exact configuration must match parts and firmware

  • Choose 8 mm configuration and inspect assembly8 linked parts and frame8 feature sources.
  • Inspect motherboard schematic/PCB and separate Photon/OpenPnP documentation before selecting firmware/hardware pairing.
  • Use linked assembly documentation to reconcile full parts/fabrication/commissioning needs; no complete current budget established.

Project notes

Begin with one mechanical configuration

The inspected 8 mm frame FreeCAD file is an original archive whose Git identity matched the pinned repository. ZIP integrity and Document.xml parsing passed; the document declares sketches, Pad/Pocket features and body objects. The separate assembly-8 archive contains assembly and linked-object declarations. These are stronger source artifacts than a rendered image, but they were not opened in FreeCAD and their feature regeneration or full external-link resolution was not tested. [4] [5]

Choose this 8 mm configuration before combining files or ordering parts. The source tree also has 12 mm variants, but its listed frame-12.FCStd blob is only 132 bytes and was not established here as a native geometry payload. This review does not convert that filename into an inspected 12 mm design. Motor/vendor reference bodies and the complete set of linked feeder parts require their own configuration checks. [4] [5]

The motherboard source is available; electrical validation remains separate

The original motherboard KiCad PCB and schematic were retrieved and matched to pinned Git identities. Whitespace-aware source-token inspection found 74 PCB footprints, 723 track segments, two zones and 212 schematic wire records. These counts establish source records rather than only a layout screenshot, not net connectivity or electrical correctness. The board's source version is from the KiCad 9 era. Source structure inspection does not establish a native load, DRC result, correct assembly, motor current capacity or wiring. The smaller light-diffusion board is a separate artifact, not a substitute for the motherboard. [3] [6] [7]

A practical next investigation is to inspect the assembly's linked parts, frame and board source together, then follow the README's linked user and open-hardware assembly documentation. Those external guides were not inspected in this packet, so this profile does not claim to supply a complete assembly sequence or reconciled first-working BOM and budget. Fabrication, motors, electronics, tools, host machine, delivery and tax remain separate unknowns. [1] [4] [5]

Pair Photon and OpenPnP deliberately

Photon firmware lives in a separate repository. The README reports that OpenPnP has Photon support and that the feeders are designed for LumenPnP. That is the starting integration context, not a verified firmware release pairing or an observed feeding/pickup result. Review those separate sources against the selected hardware before flashing, configuring addresses or attempting motion. No firmware build, communication, tape advance, component alignment or feeding reliability test was performed. [1]

Rights are deliberately layered: cad/pcb hardware is CERN-OHL-W-v2, workflow code is MPL-2.0 and KiCad libraries are CC-BY-SA-4.0. Branding and media are reserved, with derivative branding restrictions stated in the notice. Do not apply the hardware license to logos, photographs, firmware or bought-in motor designs. Original archives stay private; source links are not certification of manufacturing readiness. [2]

What we checked

Pinned source and selected artifact structure review only; no dependency installation, upstream build, native CAD/kernel/fit/strength validation, fabrication, wiring, calibration, simulation, powered operation or performance testing. Original archives stay private.
