Overview

OpenLoong's QingLoong hardware repository is useful as a humanoid mechanical-design reference. It supplies subsystem drawings and component CAD that an experienced team can inspect and adapt. It is not yet a verified shopping-and-assembly path to a complete working robot in this review. Procurement, electronics, control integration and commissioning still need configuration-specific work. Is this for you?

Use cases
  • Humanoid mechanical design research
  • Component design comparison

Known limitations
  • Most V2.5 STEP entries are LFS pointers in the archive; only one selected payload was recovered here.
  • Complete procurement, electronics manufacturing files and commissioning instructions were not established.
  • Repository license and README purpose wording need to be read together.

Hardware & parts

Hardware configuration

Full-size bipedal humanoid design organized by waist, chest, head and leg/foot subsystems.

Sensors
  • Upstream describes LiDAR, depth cameras and surround cameras; exact installed configuration must be matched to the selected revision.

Assembly & first use

Open the upstream getting-started guide [3] · Project documentation [5]

  • Choose an explicitly identified hardware version and subsystem.
  • Retrieve the matching drawings and real STEP payloads, checking LFS sizes and hashes.
  • Reconcile the required purchased components, electronics and assembly information before fabrication.
  • Review controller and sensor integration separately before any physical commissioning.

Project notes

Match the version before using the drawings

This profile reviews GitHub snapshot 3aeb3759661602092b74c33c271d3052e1a94280. The repository contains waist, chest, head and leg/foot material, alongside versioned QingLoong V2.5 directories. English and Chinese paths, older component files and newer versioned files should not be combined into an assumed single assembly or counted as distinct physical parts. [1] [3]

The preserved archive includes actual older STEP payloads, PDF drawings and 190 Git LFS pointer files. A pointer contains a checksum and expected size, not usable CAD geometry. We separately retrieved one V2.5 waist-bracket STEP and verified its size and SHA-256 against the pointer. That establishes access to that selected component only; the remaining pointer payloads and a complete revision-matched assembly were not recovered or validated. [3] [4]

For a useful first inspection, choose a subsystem, obtain its matching drawings and actual STEP files, and reconcile the component numbers before selecting suppliers or starting fabrication. The Chinese overview is also useful for understanding the intended system and component interfaces. This is an engineering evaluation workflow, not a tested build procedure. [1] [3] [5]

What remains outside the verified design pack

Upstream describes an EtherCAT joint-control architecture with a motion-control computer and several sensing systems. Those descriptions do not establish that the reviewed mechanical repository contains complete controller firmware, electronics manufacturing files or an executable, commissioned control stack. We did not establish a complete procurement BOM, a current delivered budget, or a step-by-step assembly and calibration sequence. [1] [3] [5]

The README also reports robot performance and a dimension tuple without enough configuration context for this review to turn them into a reliable build envelope or acceptance criteria. This profile therefore does not repeat walking-speed, payload, battery-life or overall-dimension claims as verified specifications. No parts were fabricated, no CAD fit analysis was performed, and no robot was operated. [1]

Read the rights at the artifact boundary

The repository includes Solderpad Hardware License 2.1. Its README also describes the files as intended for technical learning and research and gives a commercial-use compliance disclaimer. We record both declarations without interpreting that wording as an independently verified restriction or blanket commercial clearance. Purchased components, external controller software and later revisions need their own checks. [1] [2]

The publication decision is a partial-source hardware reference: useful mechanical material is present, while completeness and system reproduction remain unresolved. An upstream simulator or retargeting project mentioning OpenLoong would not, by itself, establish working compatibility with this hardware snapshot. [1] [3]
