Overview

The Quad Linear Amplifier board is a four-channel amplifier hardware design with Altium project, schematic and PCB files. Its revision notes describe changes to motor-current/voltage control, feedback, safety-related connections and purchased components. This entry is a bounded robot-control electronics design reference. The supplied README states no project reuse grant; rights for the complete design remain unresolved here. Publicly accessible files do not establish manufacturing or redistribution permission. [1] [2]

Is this for you?

Known limitations
  • No project license/reuse grant identified in inspected root README/project tree; public visibility does not authorize reuse.
  • Rev 1.3 designs may have 1.2 silkscreen; rev 1.4 requires FPGA firmware 5 plus; later ADC/DAC/regulator changes not interchangeable.
  • Only selected schematic sheet and PCB container decoded; no full schematic netlist/DRC/native open/thermal or load test.

Editorial assessment of bounded source evidence; no runtime, fit, manufacturing or compatibility proof.

Assembly & first use

Open the upstream getting-started guide [1] [2] [5] [6]

  • Identify physical board revision from release changes rather than silkscreen alone.
  • Inspect Altium source, matched BOM/assembly files and FPGA interface before ordering.
  • Resolve reuse permissions and thermal/power/controller requirements before manufacture.

Project notes

Inspect actual design data, not only the project manifest

The original S01.SchDoc and AMP.PcbDoc were retrieved and matched to their pinned Git identities. Compound-file inspection found schematic parameter records and multiple PCB source streams. This establishes actual structured Altium design content beyond a file list or empty project manifest. It does not establish that every schematic sheet was decoded, that a complete netlist was reconstructed or that the design opens without missing dependencies in Altium. [5] [6]

The README also identifies BOM, heatsink drawing, fabrication and assembly packages. Those pointers are useful next sources, but their complete contents were not inspected here. Before ordering, match the selected electrical revision, BOM and assembly/manufacturing files, and review thermal design and supply/controller interfaces. No PCB fabrication, native DRC, amplifier load or protection test was performed. [1]

Do not select a revision from silkscreen alone

The release notes say design revision 1.3 boards can carry 1.2 silkscreen and identify relay U31 changing from +12 V to +5 V as a distinguishing feature. They also say revision 1.4's digital-output changes require FPGA firmware revision 5 or later. Those details directly affect identifying a physical board and choosing its controller; repository version labels alone do not establish a compatible installed system. [1]

Revision 1.5 adds software-selectable open-loop motor-voltage control alongside analog closed-loop current control, changes current-feedback filtering and adds an I/O expander. Its component alternatives carry prerequisites: pulldown R75 indicates the LTC2604 DAC configuration, while an AD7694 ADC requires U44/U45 level translators. The same notes document a regulator pinout change driven by component availability. Treat those as configuration differences, not interchangeable shopping substitutions. The selected files were not tested with any firmware or motor. [1]

The revision 1.6 notes specify using OPA549 feedback capacitor C74 for voltage as well as current control to prevent oscillation, increasing its rating from 16 V to 100 V and changing its package from 0603 to 1206. This is an upstream design statement, not tested behavior here. Revision 1.6 also disconnects J2 pin 44 from GND, which the notes associate with an FPGA V3.1 change. Investigate the matched amplifier and FPGA designs together before reusing wiring or older firmware assumptions. The notes' historical build quantities are author reports, not boards built or inspected in this review. [1]

Bound the next step to source investigation

Begin by identifying the intended QLA revision and its FPGA counterpart, then inspect the actual circuit data alongside the matching BOM, heatsink and assembly packages. Resolve reuse permissions separately from technical interpretation. No complete current build cost, parts availability, thermal envelope, current accuracy or safety behavior was established. An Altium container parse is not an operating amplifier or a certification of the wider robot-control system. [1] [5] [6]
