Overview

Visy is a Raspberry Pi 3 and Camera V2 vision-system design with a case, holder and historical software-system documentation. The README describes illumination, a status bar and a 3.5-inch touchscreen, with ROS packages supporting the application. This entry is a narrow physical-design/documentation reference; it does not establish that a complete current vision application can be rebuilt from this repository. [1]

Is this for you?

Known limitations
  • CC-BY-NC-SA4 noncommercial source restriction.
  • Selected 39 node tree does not establish ROS application sources; external system image is not inspected source.
  • Pi4/Focal/Noetic/neural detector changes are listed future work, not reviewed features.

Editorial assessment of bounded source evidence; no runtime, fit, manufacturing or compatibility proof.

Project notes

Begin with the inspected physical artifact

The original holder_link_3mm.dxf was retrieved and matched to its pinned Git identity. Its text contains actual line, arc and circle entities: twelve lines, eight arcs and one circle in the bounded inspection. This is a real two-dimensional holder design, not native parametric CAD, a verified enclosure assembly or evidence of fit with another Raspberry Pi revision. [4]

The README says the three-part enclosure was designed for Pi 3. It lists Pi 4 case changes, Ubuntu Focal, ROS Noetic and neural-detector updates as future work. Those are not implemented features established by this review. Match the selected holder, camera, display and case geometry before selecting fabrication or assuming support for a newer board. No native CAD/mesh load, print, laser cut or assembly was performed. [1]

Keep the historical system image separate from application source

The documented image uses Ubuntu 16.04 LXDE and ROS Kinetic with preconfigured workspace, services and display driver. The externally hosted image was not retrieved or booted, and the selected repository tree does not establish the ROS application implementations. A system-image download link is not equivalent to inspected source for all packages. [1]

The README links package sources and explains selecting services, including the coupling between detector shutdown and camera availability. It also warns that its update route fetches current master branches and hard-resets package data. Inspect the actual package revisions and preserve any local work before considering that historical workflow; none of those updates or service operations was run here. [1]

A useful next step is therefore the matched Pi 3 mechanical configuration, followed by inspection of the linked parts/wiki and individual package sources. Those external sources were not fully reviewed in this entry, so no complete current BOM, reproducible software installation or working detection/sorting task is claimed. No camera acquisition, touchscreen, illumination or robot-control test was performed. [1] [4]

The project declares CC-BY-NC-SA-4.0, with noncommercial and share-alike restrictions. That is source-available material, not an unrestricted open-hardware grant or permission over unrelated vendor parts and external media. Fabrication, electronics, display, host storage, tools, delivery and tax were not reconciled into a current complete price. [1] [2]

What we checked

Pinned source and selected artifact structure review only; no dependency installation, upstream build, native CAD/kernel/fit/strength validation, fabrication, wiring, calibration, simulation, powered operation or performance testing. Original archives stay private.
