Overview

robosuite Task Zoo is a small collection of community manipulation environments. MimicGen uses it as an optional dependency for its Kitchen and Hammer Cleanup tasks, with an exact source revision pinned in the installation guide. It is most useful when reproducing those existing task setups or studying their implementations. [1] [8]

Is this for you?

Known limitations
  • Generic setup installs deprecated mujoco-py; newer robosuite compatibility is not established.
  • Environment documentation repeats a hammer description across different tasks.
  • The root demo references NewLift, absent from exported task classes.
  • The linked demonstration ZIP returned HTTP 404 during this review.

What you need

Languages / runtimes
  • Python

[2]

Dependencies
  • Install robosuite separately
  • setup.py requests mujoco-py >=2.0.2.9, NumPy, Numba and SciPy
  • MimicGen pins this exact revision but instructs removal of deprecated setup dependencies

Installation & first result

Open the upstream getting-started guide [4] · Project documentation [3]

  • Choose the robosuite environment required by the consuming experiment.
  • For MimicGen, follow its pinned task-zoo installation instructions and dependency-edit warning.
  • Inspect examples/demo_env.py for the Panda MultitaskKitchenDomain setup.
  • Check task-specific success logic and rendering before collecting or comparing results.

Installation

Editable source install after a compatible robosuite setup; MimicGen gives revision-specific dependency adjustments.

Hardware, models & data

Inputs and outputs

Robosuite environment configuration and robot actions yield observations, rewards and task-specific completion signals.

Evaluation

Inspect the selected environment success implementation; the provided constant-action demo is a rendering/setup check, not a learned-policy benchmark.

Project notes

Follow the consuming project's dependency recipe

The reviewed commit is 74eab7f88214c21ca1ae8617c2b2f8d19718a9ed; no GitHub release was listed at review. Its setup.py still requests mujoco-py>=2.0.2.9, alongside NumPy, Numba and SciPy. The README says to install robosuite separately and then install Task Zoo editable. [1] [2] [6]

For MimicGen, use its more specific instructions: they pin this same revision and explicitly recommend removing the install_requires dependencies because they include deprecated packages such as mujoco-py. That is a reproduction-specific adjustment, not evidence that Task Zoo works unchanged with the latest robosuite. We have not made or tested that upstream edit. [8]

Read the task code alongside the documentation

The environment guide repeats a hammer-and-cabinet description under ToolUse, Kitchen and MultitaskKitchenDomain. It should not be used alone to determine task semantics. For example, the Kitchen implementation checks that the pot is in the serving region, an ingredient contacts the pot, the stove is off, and the stove was previously turned on. Even its success-check docstring refers to a drawer, so the actual predicate is the more useful evidence here. [3] [5]

Use examples/demo_env.py as the more relevant starting example: it creates MultitaskKitchenDomain with a Panda robot, an OSC_POSITION controller, rendering, and 100 steps of a constant four-value action. That can help inspect setup and rendering once dependencies are resolved; it is not a successful-task demonstration or policy evaluation. The root demo.py instead references NewLift, which is absent from the exported environment classes at this revision. [4] [10] [11]

Code access does not establish demonstration access

The repository code and accompanying documentation carry MIT terms. The environment page separately links a demonstration ZIP hosted on Box. That URL returned HTTP 404 during this review, so demonstration access and dataset-specific permissions remain unresolved. Do not infer dataset rights from the repository's code license. [7] [3] [9]

We reviewed source, configuration and documentation only. Simulator installation, example execution, task success, rendering requirements and physical transfer remain untested.

What we checked
