Overview

Skidy generates symbolic robot kinematics and dynamics models from structured definitions. It supports YAML, JSON, Python and URDF input routes. Its contribution is robot-model/code-generation software, not measured physical dynamics or an automatically correct controller. [1] [4]

Is this for you?

Known limitations
  • Symbolicmodel/codegeneration isnot verified robotgeometry/dynamics or compiledcontroller.
  • Optionaltestingtools/Octave andgeneratedtargets require their ownenvironment checks.

Open the upstream getting-started guide [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6]

  • Inspect the named configuration, source interfaces and required external components.
  • Attempt only the matched documented workflow after resolving environment and rights gaps; no operation reproduced here.

Installation

Python >=3.8 metadata with SymPy >=1.8 and urdf_parser_py >=0.0.4; ordinary installation and testing extras differ, and oct2py requires external Octave.

Documented source requirements/route, not installation or compatibility reproduced by this catalog.

Project notes

Separate the basic package from optional comparison tools

The selected metadata declares version 0.0.1, Python 3.8 or later, SymPy 1.8 or later and urdf_parser_py 0.0.4 or later, plus numpy, YAML and documentation/graph dependencies. The README separates ordinary installation from testing extras and notes that oct2py requires an actual Octave installation. No dependency environment or optional comparison test was run. [1] [3]

For a bounded input task, the README can generate a YAML template for a chosen joint sequence. It requires screw coordinates, link reference transforms and an end-effector transform; inverse dynamics additionally needs gravity and mass/inertia data. Tree structures add graph relationships. A syntactically populated template is not evidence that those quantities describe a real mechanism. [1]

The hopping-leg URDF example creates SymbolicKinDyn, sets gravity and an end-effector transform, loads a selected URDF and invokes kinematics and Python generation. [5] Inspect the URDF, joint conventions and symbolic assignments with that example before interpreting generated expressions. The generator source implements the output-code route; this is source evidence, not a tested output artifact. [6]

No URDF parse, symbolic computation, generated-code compile or numerical dynamics comparison was executed here. [4] [5]

What we checked

Pinned source/document inspection only; no installation, compile, credentials/API use, simulator, lab experiment or physical hardware test.
